Tournament Rules

SEWA TENNIS LEAGUE WITH SHORT SETS

TOURNAMENT TENTATIVE DATES: END OF SEP OR 1 WEEK OF OCT 2019

Short scoring: Matches played within these leagues consist of two short sets with a conventional tie-break at one set all.

Ø  A short set is played to four games instead of six.

Ø  A set is therefore won at 4-0, 4-1, 4-2, etc. 

Ø  At 4-3 the player with the four-game advantage needs to win one more game to win the set (ie 5-3). 

Ø  At 4-4, the next game is sudden death - the set is won 5-4

Ø  If the match goes to one set all, a match tie-break (first to 10 instead of 7) is played. The player who received serve at the end of the previous set serves first in the tie-break

Typical final scores might be:

o   A bt B: 4-0, 4-2

(A 3 points; B 1)

o   B bt A : 2-4, 5-3, (10-4)  

(B 3 points, including one for the third set tie-break; A 2 points)

Tournament Grouping:

Ø  Men’s- 16 Participants split into 4 groups of 4 each

o   1st round winners will play Quarter finals

o   2nd round winners will play semifinals

o   3rd round winners will play finals

 

Ø  Women’s- 16 Participants split into 4 groups of 4 each

o   1st round winners will play Quarter finals

o   2nd round winners will play semifinals

o   3rd round winners will play finals

 

Ø  Boys(18 and Below)-  16 Participants split into 4 groups of 4 each

o   1st round winners will play Quarter finals

o   2nd round winners will play semifinals

o   3rd round winners will play finals

 

Ø  Girls (18 and Below)- 16 Participants split into 4 groups of 4 each

o   1st round winners will play Quarter finals

o   2nd round winners will play semifinals

o   3rd round winners will play finals 

Note - If you loose you are out (Knock out).
