ASPIRE

(Achieving Students Progress, Instilling Resilience, and Excellence)

ASPIRE (Achieving Students Progress, Instilling Resilience, and Excellence) is an after-school program (Math, English Language Arts, and Enrichment) that provides supplementary language intervention and helps improve academic performance for children from kindergarten to sixth grade. The students come from underserved, refugee, and immigrant communities. The tutorials are offered at various schools and at Sewa ASPIRE centers in apartment complexes where the children live.

Sewa runs ASPIRE programs in Newark, New Jersey, in the Bay Area, in Atlanta, and in Houston. In Newark, 141 students have been served till now; in the Bay Area over 180 students have participated through a partnership with two school districts; and in Houston, over 100 refugee and immigrant students have taken advantage of these tutorials in centers housed at three apartment complexes.

Furthermore, ASPIRE assists with digital literacy offering training in computer labs. Sewa volunteers also organize health and nutrition sessions for the students and their parents. They arrange food drives and other beneficial programs for children and the community in Sewa education centers.
