Namaste Everyone!

Thank you to more than 80 attendees including 45 plus program students who joined us for LEAD’s second monthly meeting of the year. For those who could not make it, below is the recap.

For Sewa's DC chapter, 2024 began with some new and exciting programs. During the February 11th meeting, the DTL Teams had their first presentations of the year. Team 1 focused on food insecurity, Team 2 on mental health awareness, and Team 3 on inadequate access to quality education in underprivileged communities.

The YFS Board and Intern selections for 2024 were announced. At the next meeting, the YFS Board will introduce themselves and present a plan for 2024 volunteering events.

This year, LEAD members will have to follow new guidelines: members must attend monthly meetings, participate in at least one volunteering opportunity every month, and attend the National Youth Conference on July 27th.

Volunteer hours must be logged before the last day of the activity month. To submit your volunteer hours, please go to sewausa.org/washington/lead and click on “Log Volunteer Hours.” Attendance will be taken during the monthly meetings.

Our esteemed guests Dr. Anil Gupta and Mrs. Rajani Kopparapu shared their thoughts about AI's impact on the world. They also shared their entrepreneurship experience. Dr. Gupta informed us about how jobs are being affected by the advancements in AI and also discussed emerging economies such as India and China. Mrs. Kopparapu gave us an inspirational speech about her daughter’s journey, and how she founded the GirlsComputingLeague. She also provided insights into starting non-profits, emphasizing on the importance of honing in on an area of our passion and building on our strengths.

Lastly, we had a group picture taken, after which parents and students had the opportunity to network while getting their questions answered during lunch.
