Overview Sewa at Washington DC has been actively conducting various community service programs in the metropolitan area for many years. In 2015, the chapter has revived its executive committee that now carries on the chapter’s activities aligning to the goal and mission of the organization. The chapter has reached out to the homeless shelters in the area and periodically conducts donation drives to collect essentials for the Shelter's residents. The chapter successfully continues the Annapurna Monthly Lunch Delivery program at the Reston Shelter on the first Sunday of the month. Sewa Washington DC chapter has proudly inaugurated Yoga for Sewa program on June 21, 2015, the first International Yoga day, conducted by the Indian Embassy. More than 35 kids performed partner Yoga at the National Monument before scores of people. The program has led to conducting free Yoga sessions at Fairfax Shelter House by the certified Yoga teachers from the Sewa team. The chapter continues to conduct Tree plantation drive, and Adopt a Highway programs in DC, Northern Virginia, and Maryland regions where tens of families participate with enthusiasm promoting environmental awareness. In 2015, the chapter has worked tirelessly to raise funds for the relief of many natural calamities viz., Nepal Earth quake, Tamilnadu Floods, and Manipur Earth Quake. The chapter actively collects donations for the various Sewa programs carried out internationally inspiring all age groups to participate and volunteer for the cause of humanity. Sewa chapter in DC partners with like-minded organizations, such as Earth Sangha, IAACM, Kalamandapam, AOL, HSS, Ekal Vidyalaya, Samskrita Bharati to name a few and conducts various activities that benefit the metropolitan community.
