DIY Campaign: Let Every Girl Child Say Yes I Can Go To School
Scope Come spend an enjoyable evening with us and support a noble cause! Aja Nach Le Dance School under the able guidance of Guru Smt. Annapurna Rao; in partnership with SEWA International USA, Bay Area chapter has arranged a fundraiser for SEWA's "Girls Hygiene and Women's Empowerment" Programs, through a scintillating powerful dance extravaganza. It all began in 2013 when Jayanthi Ramanan ji scouted the streets and slums of Bangalore and realized that girl children are not sent to school due to lack of toilets and menstrual hygiene issues. She appealed to Sewa USA for this great cause of putting girl children ahead and break the gender inequality to give girls and women equal opportunities. Thus, started Seva Kirana’s project of toilet building in India! Till today total of 210 toilets have been built in Bangalore, Bandipur, Bidar, Bijapur in Karnataka, Lucknow and Varanasi in UP and Dindigul in Tamil Nadu. A sanitary napkin machine is provided to a school in Bidar with 1600 children out of which 900 are girls. Kids make their own napkins and distribute them at very low cost thus creating a sustainable model. The plan is to scale up the number of toilets to 500 and sanitary napkin machines to 20 during 2018!
