Kenya Rural School

Scope
Sewa International through its partner Amara Charitable Trust built a school building with five classrooms, a kitchen-dining-store room complex, eight pit latrines, and, a Healthcare center in the rural community of for Kwa Kalusya community, Athi River District, Lukenya, Machakos County, Kenya, 45 km (28 miles) from the Kenyan capital of Nairobi. The arid community at Kwa Kalusya is made up of quarry miners, sand harvesters, goat and cow herders.
Project Details
Our partner Amara Charitable Trust is a strong campaigner for delivery of basic education and healthcare to needy communities living in the arid and semi arid areas of Kenya.The specific aim has been to rehabilitate and build school structures for Schools registered with the Ministry of Education. Where there is need for a healthcare centre, Amara has built this for the local community and handed to the Ministry of Health to manage in July 2012.

Health Center
The Health center is under the management of the Ministry of Health and serves the broader community. Some of the common health issues are communicable diseases including HIV, Tuberculosis, Malaria, youth malnutrition, infant mortality, pregnancy related deaths and water and sanitation related illnesses. The Ministry of Health have assigned a nurse to this facility who treats 25-30 patients daily.
