Sewa Maryland ASPIRE Program

The Sewa Maryland ASPIRE Program is a comprehensive, long-term educational and community intervention initiative designed to uplift underserved and immigrant students academically, socially, and emotionally. The program was launched at Briggs Chaney Middle School (BCMS) in Montgomery County , marking an important milestone in Sewa’s ongoing commitment to creating sustainable, positive change in the lives of children, families, and the surrounding community.

Briggs Chaney Middle School serves 864 students, with approximately 60% coming from low-income families who face challenges related to food security, housing stability, and access to academic resources. In response to these needs, Sewa has undertaken a year-long, daily, and multi-year responsibility to work closely with the school to support student success both inside and outside the classroom.

The Maryland ASPIRE Program is a Sewa–AmeriCorps initiative focused on supporting schools with large underserved and immigrant populations. As part of this effort, Sewa has placed 24 AmeriCorps members at Briggs Chaney Middle School, serving as Supplemental Intervention Specialists and Community Liaisons.
