Support Projects of Today's Kalam Foundation in Old City Hyderabad |
Today’s Kalam Foundation started in 2016 at Hyderabad by a group of intellectuals inspired by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Our focus is on empowering the local community in the old city of Hyderabad with initiatives on Education, Health & Skill Upgrade. "Aaj ka Abdul - Kal Ka Kalam" represents our core vision of creating more Kalams leading the way forward. Open Tenth Coaching Challenge: Numerous students discontinue their education prematurely, limiting their access to better job prospects and brighter future opportunities. Without a basic 10th-grade education, they find themselves deprived of the essential knowledge and skills required to succeed in a competitive world. Solution: ⦁ Set up mentorship and counseling programs and work with the community to help students understand why education is important and why dropping out is harmful, all with the goal of helping them finish their education. ⦁ A well-structured process in student selection has been created, along with coaching modules to ensure students appear in open tenth-grade exams with proper training. ⦁ Assistance is provided in higher education admissions through college tie-ups. Impact: ⦁ The program has achieved a 90% pass percentage. ⦁ The program's student participation has shown significant growth over time. Here are the details: ⦁ In 2018, 20 students were involved. ⦁ In 2019, 20 students continued to receive support. ⦁ In 2020, the program expanded to 30 students. ⦁ In 2021, the number of students increased to 50. ⦁ In 2022, 80 students received assistance. Mainstream Education for Madrasas Challenge: Kids have exposure to only religious teachings and not mainstream education, especially those enrolled in Madrasas. This limits their capabilities in excelling to their full potential of learning. Solution: ⦁ Educated graduates assume the role of mentors, concentrating on groups of 25 children per center, conducting enriching daily sessions lasting 2 hours each. ⦁ These sessions encompass essential subjects, health, nutrition, self-defence, and a spectrum of other valuable topics with the goal of accessible mainstream education. Impact: The program has reached a significant number of children and continues to expand its reach: ⦁ In 2018, over 300 children were reached through 15 centers. ⦁ In 2019, the program continued to impact over 300 children through 15 centers. ⦁ In 2020, despite challenges, the program adapted to online classes and reached 100+ children. ⦁ In 2021, online classes continued to benefit 100+ children. ⦁ In 2022, the program rebounded to reach over 300 children through 15 centers, showcasing the resilience and commitment to providing accessible mainstream education to these children. Kalam Hospital - Affordable Healthcare Challenge: Affordable healthcare remains out of reach for the communities residing in the core of the old city. Financial limitations make it impossible for them to afford treatment in private hospitals, forcing them to travel over 20+ Kms by public transport to reach government hospitals. Solution: Kalam Hospital is a cost-effective service-oriented facility providing low-cost treatment to underprivileged patients and offering comprehensive medical services, diagnostics, and treatments all in one place. Additionally, they also regularly host medical camps in various specialized areas. Impact: ⦁ Kalam Hospital has brought affordable healthcare closer to the community, eliminating the need for residents to travel long distances to access Government hospitals. ⦁ It serves an average of 25-30 patients daily and has organized 30+ medical camps. ⦁ During 2021, the hospital cared for over 2,000 patients, and in 2022, this number increased to more than 2,500 patients, highlighting its substantial impact on the community's healthcare needs. In 2023, it continues its mission of serving as many people as possible. | Goal: $50,000.00
