Tharparkar District Drought Relief (2014)

Due to unseasonable drought by April 2014, nearly 300 young children from poor families died due to lack of water and malnutrition. Sewa worked with HRF and provided relief.

Scope

Sewa International is working with Harey Rama Foundation (HRF) of Pakistan in disaster relief and rehabilitation (Sindh and Punjab provinces) as well as in development projects (Punjab). The beneficiaries typically do the least respected jobs as fishermen, cobblers, brick makers, sanitation and farm workers. Their status as “lower caste” and their jobs are usually inherited through generations.  The illiteracy rate is over 75% with the figure for women closer to 90%. They live below poverty line and lack all basic necessities of life including health, education and shelter.

Disaster Relief

Sindhu River Flood Relief (2010, 2011)

This project focused on relief for the poor who were affected by the untimely multi-year floods of the Sindhu river.

Development Projects

Skill Development Center

HRF has established two Skill Development Centers for the economically underprivileged in Rahim Yar Khan (400 miles from Karachi). The objective is to strengthen the economically deprived while improving their education and social standing.
