AmeriCorps Disaster Preparedness Outreach Specialist, 25 hrs/week ( 4 Positions )
- Total number of hours: Half Time 900-- which include training, service hours and professional development
- Living Allowance $10,500 Education Award $3,247.50

Service Location: Sewa Office /Workshops locations in the community
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide workshops and presentations to help individuals design and implement disaster preparedness plans for their families and neighborhoods, with a focus on readiness, resilience, and a reduction of risks associated with natural and man-made disasters
- Ongoing updates to a dynamic disaster preparedness workshop for adults and plan for delivery to local organization and affiliates
- Ongoing updates to a dynamic disaster preparedness workshop for children and plan for delivery to schools, local organizations, and affiliates
- Research, identify, and disseminate disaster preparedness promising practices and internationally accepted standards throughout the Sewa community.
- Develop and maintain strong external relationships with peer organizations, partners, government agencies, volunteers, and donors
- Work in tandem with affiliate volunteers to enhance viability of temples to serve as shelters in the aftermath of disasters
- Provide surge capacity to affiliates post-disaster, as needed
Required/Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bilingual preferred -- Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic, Urdu or Chinese
- Public speaking skills
- Strong writing skills
- Ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds
- Proven organizational skills
- Self-initiative and responsibility
- Ability to work well in a Team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or ongoing studies and comparable work experience in that can be applied to the requirements of this position
Service Conditions: Education:
- Office and offsite including home visits
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or a permanent U.S. resident.
- Enrollment in the program is contingent on the results of a National Service Criminal History Check that includes FBI fingerprinting and national record check, National Sex Offender Registry, and state criminal background check.
