Let's Celebrate Our Impact - Together
Sewa, with your support, is making an outsized impact in the local community. Please come and witness OUR contribution to the bay area community through these local Bay Area projects:
COVID-19 Relief Efforts: Sewa Bay Area rose to the occasion rapidly, with more than 500 committed volunteers, to help close the gap on many critical needs such as the crippling shortage of PPEs as well as providing meals and groceries to the needy. We distributed almost 57,000 KN95, N95, surgical masks, 11,000 handmade masks and 3D-printed Face Shields to essential workers and to those at risk. We served approximately 20,000 underprivileged families across Northern California by distributing essential supplies such as fresh fruits, vegetables, milk, and groceries valued at around US$ 1 Million, and provided $300,000 financial support to 300 of the families most affected by the pandemic.
California Wildfire Support: As the recent fires in California turned out to be the largest wildfire in California's history, Sewa Bay area continued to help people who lost their homes. Sewa-Bay Area mobilized direct assistance through volunteers and local partner organizations to help thousands of families. As the fires continued to burn, Sewa volunteers were on the ground providing support for survivors and emergency workers. Food and essential distribution drive provided families a chance to hope and heal.
Youth Empowerment Program: Through the Aspire Program, Sewa Bay Area provides tutorials to students who do not have access to resources that can help them succeed and need extra help learning beyond the classroom. Almost 200 children in many underserved communities in the Bay Area have been helped this year through this program.
Sewa's highly regarded LEAD Program, which trains young adults from local Bay Area high schools to become socially conscious leaders of tomorrow, helped hundreds of high school students connect with various volunteer opportunities related to COVID-19 and California fires, including food distribution, mask making and distribution, and serving socially isolated seniors.
Family Services: Bay area team provided support to local families through health and wellness workshops, and educational seminars. During the pandemic, The team managing the Sewa West Coast Helpline for COVID-19 related issues received 215 calls and dealt with 60 unique cases of families needing help.
SELF (A brand new Sewa Initiative): COVID-19 pandemic has amplified the need for maintaining good health – physical and emotional. This program is aimed at bringing people together, providing support and encouragement, and guidance in adopting a balanced and active lifestyle.
