9/11 Memorial at Chesterfield A new 9/11 memorial was unveiled in Chesterfield, NJ, on September 11, 2024. The memorial, an initiative of Sewa International’s South Jersey Chapter in partnership with Chesterfield Township, honors the victims and heroes of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on US soil. The solemn ceremony, attended by over 350 people including local officials, state senators, assembly members, and first responders, featured the unveiling of three key monuments symbolizing the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and Flight 93. A dedicatory plaque at the memorial’s entrance offered an overview of its significance. Completed in just 23 days, the memorial was funded by generous donors and sponsors. It represents a collective effort from veterans, first responders, the township committee and staff, the environmental commission, the historical society, the interfaith group, Sewa volunteers, supporters, local businesses, and corporations. Lt. Col. Eric J. Tolska, a key figure in the 9/11 rescue efforts, delivered a moving keynote address, reflecting on the courage and challenges of that day. State Senator Latham Tiver emphasized the need to embody values of care and pride daily, while Assemblywoman Andrea Katz urged everyone to reconnect and be kind. Mayor Matthew Litt expressed gratitude for the memorial, noting its role as a space for reflection and unity. Sridhar Talanki, a Sewa International USA board member, highlighted the impact of collective action, saying, "Together, we can build a future where every citizen has the opportunity to reach their full potential." Scheduled for unveiling on September 11th, 2024 the National Day of Service and Remembrance, the memorial stands as a heartfelt tribute to those who made immense sacrifices. The unanimous approval of the memorial proposal by the Chesterfield Township Committee, along with their allocation of land within Charlotte Rogers Park and the finalization of the design, underscores the significance of this endeavor. We are steadfast in our commitment to commence construction in July, ensuring that this memorial becomes a symbol of unity and remembrance for
generations to come. How is this Memorial funded? The 9/11 Memorial at Charlotte Rogers Park is a community project led by Sewa
in collaboration with local residents, businesses, and patriotic donors like you. The funds are generated through fundraiser events, sponsorships, and general donations. No tax dollars will be used. How can people be involved in this project? This memorial site at Chesterfield will serve as a space of shared memory that binds us together. The memorial will require minimal maintenance.The Chesterfield township public works will maintain the memorial. When will the memorial be open? The memorial unveiling is scheduled for Wednesday, September 11th 2024 ,the National Day of Service. Will the memorial be open to the public? Yes, the memorial will be accessible year round to the public. Will there be a fee to visit the memorial? Visiting and paying your respects at the memorial will be free of charge. How do I sponsor a brick/granite plaque for the 9/11 Memorial? The sponsored engraved bricks will be installed along the left & right side of the
patchway to the memorial. Whether you purchase a brick for yourself, as a gift, or as a memorial to a loved one, this is a unique way to make a contribution to the community and be recognized at the same time by leaving a permanent legacy or mark in the community. The sponsorship amount for the engraved brick is $250, and for the granite plaque, it is $700.
